Mixed Media and Contemporary Painting
Matt (MP13TZ) started painting during the first lockdown. Suffering somewhat with his mental health, he found that painting enabled him to ‘lose himself’ – escape from the craziness going through his head.
Matt describes himself as an abstract / Pop Art crossover, preferring to use brightly coloured paint for maximum stand-out effect.
Matt says: “When I began painting I was amazed at how I could become engrossed for hours on end, taking my thoughts away from depressive, uncontrolable anguish. I also used to suffer with insomnia, laying awake at night with thoughts racing through my head. Since painting, it’s been much better, maybe the brain stimulation of art gives me what I need. In fact, Insomnia is the title of my first painting, for this reason.”
Matt co-curated Unhooked 21 and had five pieces on show, Insomnia, Make it stop, Pulse race, Masked and Gov-19
